The Non-Profit Association Kantcentrum (Lace Centre) was founded in 1970, its main purpose being the continuation of the lace education started up in Bruges in the year 1717 by the Sisters Apostle. Since then it stands for several ways of handmade lace. In the course of time its competence and fame has been growing to that extent that worldwide the Lace Centre can be described as being the only real reference for handmade lace in several disciplines.
